"not for canada - australian in disguise" (for-canada)

It’s a car that can be had for $9998 CAD. Which, in American dollars, is $7289. For a brand new car. With wheels and everything. And the best part is, the Americans can’t even have one! Nissan has expressed time and time again that they will not bring the Micra to the US.
Suck it ‘muricans!

We get the Versa. Which isn’t that great.

And it’s almost $4000 US more than the Micra.

That’s fine, you’ll still have to deal with the Mirage. And, from reviews, the Micra is actually a pretty good car for it’s price.

It’s easy to be dismissive of that car, but, for $7300, I’m willing to bet there would be a hell of a lot of takers.
This isn’t a case where a slick salesman shows you how much more car you can get for only a few extra dollars a month by moving from the $12,000 Versa to the $16,000 Versa, that far under $10k would be low enough to make people actually insist on buying the base model. Which is probably why Nissan doesn’t want to sell it here. Every $8,000 Micra sold would be one higher margin Versa or Sentra sale that didn’t happen.

Nissan is stupid for not offering the Micra down here. If they can sell the Micra that cheap in Canada, with its higher taxes and shit, and a smaller market, they can definitely price it four digits in the US.
We NEED more affordable new cars. We are still in a depression; the “recovery” is a myth, and too many people can’t afford a new car anymore. But Nissan can make it happen.
Perhaps Nissan is making the same mistake everybody else is making, insecure jealousy that they’d steal sales from the Versa, when in fact they do not. Cheap cars compete with *used* cars, not new, so every Micra sold is a free sale so to speak.
Did they ever learn how to design a TPS? Or are GM and Mitsubishi paying Nissan not to sell the Micra in the US. The Spark and Mirage are WAY overpriced for what they are, and should also start below 10k.

I know, we already have enough horrible looking, bad financial decisions here. And I can think of hundreds of cars I’d rather have for 8 grand.

Yeah. And the Versa isn’t a bad car, it’s just not interesting either.

I see more of these on the roads than Versas. It makes me wonder why Nissan still sells the Versa in Canada.
Fun Fact: The Micra has its own Spec. Racing Series in Canada now.
I’ve thought about buying one as a cheap daily instead of dailying my truck.

I actually like the mirage. I would never spend my money on one...but I like them. I am about to make a horrible financial decision too and buy a challenger. At least that’s the goal.

At least the challenger will have psychological benefits. If you’re willing to plunk down 8 grand on a depreciating appliance (most economy cars) then that’s insane. I’m sure the mirage is okay. But wouldn’t you rather just drive a used civic and invest the leftovers?

Theyre not selling it here because they get more money from the Versa. Why sell a cheap car when you don’t have to?

Wouldn’t I? Sure. I drive a cavalier now. However, either I get a sports car now...or then comes marriage and the baby carriage and there is something to be said to striking while the iron is hot. I’m 28. It’s either now or when I am 55 and the kids are gone.

It also does have its own racing series. The fully built race car cost $20,000 to buy, and another $20,000 to run a full season. http://www.nissan.ca/micra-cup/en/ http://www.autofocus.ca/news-events/fe…
Tell me its does not look fun.

If that was sold in America then Mitsubishi would have no talking points without being the cheapest car available.

To be clear, if cars are a hobby then absolutely spend the money on a challenger or a supra or a 911, whatever tickles your fancy. But for the people who aren’t really that into cars (I’m guessing 90% of mirage micra buyers) then used civic (or really anything that drives and is done depreciating) + investment makes more sense.

Wrong! The Micra (and also Mirage and Spark) don’t compete with new cars. They compete with used cars.
Every $8000 Micra sold would be one sale they wouldn’t have gotten at all before.

As much of a good deal as it is. I still find it slightly too expensive. To really be a remarkable deal include A/C and Cruise for that price. Once you factor in the freight and PDI you are damn close to 12K and for 12K I want at least A/C. Other than that I really like the car and it is much roomier inside than its outward appearance would suggest.
